Talk About a Challenge: Do I Choose the Dodge Challenger R/T or the Dodge Challenger SRT HellcatT?

The Dodge Challenger R/T and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat are two of the most powerful muscle car coupes on the road today. And also two of the most exciting. But these muscle cars from Napleton's Ellwood Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram of Ellwood City offer various features that appeal to a particular driver. Which one is for you - the Challenger SRT or the Challenger RT? Let's examine the features of each so we can get a better handle on which Dodge Challenger is the right one for me. It all comes down to who wants to cross the finish line in first place!

Dodge Challenger R/T: Let's call the Dodge Challenger R/T for what it is. That's known as traditional American Muscle. Powered by the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine, the Dodge Challenger RT manages to put 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque to the pavement. This hot-rod can be ordered with a six-speed manual gearbox, or an eight-speed automatic transmission, which steals back three ponies, rendering an anything but lame 372 horsepower. The Dodge Challenger RT is available with the standard R/T body or as the R/T Scat Pack Wide Body version, including a 6.4-liter HEMI making 485 horsepower. By the way, in case you haven't heard, the R/T in Challenger RT stands for Road and Track.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat: The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat sits on the mountaintop, as far as the Dodge Challenger lineup is concerned. Within that family of Hellcat vehicles, there are several flavors and variations from which to choose. The base Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat model includes a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 producing 717 horsepower. Next is the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye with an astounding 797 horsepower. Finally, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Super Stock version is almost ready to compete in the National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) Super Stock drag racing ranks.

By the numbers, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye can romp from 0-to-60 mph in 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 203 miles per hour!

Dodge Challenger Looks: Body styles found on the Dodge Challenger range from the Pony car standard narrow-body configuration. This is the Challenger you see when you close your eyes to envision the Dodge Challenger of your youth. You know the distinctive Dodge look: Long hood, short rear deck, hood scoops, deck spoilers and more. Continue to the widebody kit available on some models, including the Widebody R/T Scat Pack, the Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye and Hellcat Super Stock.

What's Inside of Dodge Challenger? In an example of comfort and sophistication, the Dodge Challengers give no hint as to what's under the hood, or anywhere else, for that matter. Instead, you have a comfortable coupe with room for four, including two in a decently sized rear seating area. Five will fit in a pinch. The Dodge Challenger trim varies and includes choices ranging from cloth to Nappa leather and available Alcantara (simulated suede).

Gadgets include the latest in in-car entertainment. Dodge's award-winning Uconnect system is accessed through a center console-mounted high-definition touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard in the Dodge Challenger, and the kit includes two USB ports and a base 6-speaker audio system.

There is also other infotainment enhancing options, including a 900-watt Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system and built-in navigation.

Finally, if you are interested in hauling things, there's a cavernous 16.2 cubic trunk to carry a lot of stash for a road trip or weekend getaway in your Dodge Challenger muscle car.

What do You Want Your Dodge Challenger to do for You? That depends on what your intentions are. Do you want to cruise around your town knowing your Dodge Challenger is one of the most desirable performance cars on the road today, able to laugh at such competitors as the Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro? Then it's very likely the Dodge Challenger RT is the Challenger for you.

Or do you want something as tough on the track as it is on the Interstate, ready to take on all comers? Then the choice is clear: You want the tiger in your tank that comes with owning the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, fuel economy be damned! We have them both at Napleton's Ellwood City Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram.
