What is the Jeep Grand Cherokee L?
We will start with what it is not: The Grand Wagoneer. That new, larger model is based on the platform that also supports the Dodge Ram pickup truck.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a unibody-type vehicle that is 15 inches longer overall and includes seven more inches between the axles than the current
Grand Cherokee. That's how they have been able to grow it from a five- to a seven-passenger vehicle. With the added length and the standard middle-row captain's chairs, it seats six. Add the optional mid-row bench seat, and the Grand Cherokee L can seat seven.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee L is available in several trim levels. They range from the entry-level Laredo, Limited, Overland and Summit. The Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine producing 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft powers all Grand Cherokee L models. It is available in either 2WD or 4WD powertrains and tows up to 6,200 pounds.
A 5.7-liter HEMI V8 making 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque is an available option with the tony Overland and Summit models. It comes exclusively with an AWD powertrain and offers up to 7,200 pounds of towing capacity. The Grand Cherokee L Laredo includes standard Quadra-Trac 4WD, 18-inch alloy wheels and a cloth interior.
The Grand Cherokee L Limited builds up the luxury with a leather interior, power liftgate, and the Select-Terrain traction management system with five drive modes and a heated steering wheel.
The Overland model includes a Quadra-Trac II transfer case with high and low gearing. A Quadra-lift air suspension with active on-the-fly electronic damping, hill descent control, premium LED headlamps and a navigation system help round out the package.
