The new Ford Edge has a sporty look that's definitely an eye catcher. However, if you need a vehicle that conveys masculine image, the Durango is the vehicle to go with (the large crosshair grille gives it a distinctive appearance).

Ok, let's move on and look at what's under the hood of both vehicles. Most Edge trims come equipped with a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine. This turbocharged engine develops an adequate 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. However, for those that want more than "adequate," the Dodge Durango delivers with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine.

Because of its smaller engine, the Edge has better gas mileage than the Durango. With that being said, if what you want is power and are not concerned with saving a few dollars at the pump, the Dodge Durango is the way to go.

Even though the Edge is an SUV that's not meant to be driven off-road a lot, it's not rugged enough to tackle adverse terrain. If you are looking for a vehicle that's good for both long family trips and outdoor adventures, than the Durango has the edge (pun intended). It's relatively high ground clearance helps it to overcome deep snow and mud and the excellent entertainment features will make the long trips more enjoyable.

In addition, the Durango is not only able to carry more people (7 vs 5 for the Edge) but also has a greater towing capacity (6,200 pounds vs only 3,500 for the Edge) and more cargo space (73.4 cubic feet vs 85.1 cubic feet for the Durango).

Our final verdict is that the Dodge Durango is a better deal, hands down. Both vehicles are priced similarly but when you buy the Durango you get a bigger vehicle, with more towing and hauling capability.
