The 7th Generation Dodge Charger came in five trim levels (SXT, GT, R/T, Scat Pack and the supercharged SRT Hellcat) vs just three for Chevy Impala (LS, LT and Premier). What that means is more choices for you and a way to customize your car to truly represent who you are.

There's no denying that the Charger looks great, some would even say mean (in a good way). But so is the Impala with its Camaro-inspired front fascia that gives it a powerful look that turns heads.

The base used Charger model comes with an efficient Pentastar V6 Engine. Even though it doesn't deliver the excitement of a V8 engine, it still has enough kick for most people. Dodge tuned it to develop a healthy 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Even though the engine is powerful it's also fuel efficient.

Impala's basic trim level has a 4-cylinder engine. While it's more fuel-efficient your best bet is to upgrade to the V6 engine. Impala's V6 engine clocked 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds. While it's decent it pales in comparison to the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat that delivers a staggering 0-60 MPH time of just 3.6 seconds.

Another feature that puts Dodge Charger ahead of the Impala is the available AWD system. That's a huge benefit for those who need to travel on snow-packed roads (it provides far better traction than the standard RWD system). If you think that the added weight of the AWD system will reduce fuel economy, think again. That's simply not true - when driving in dry weather, an axle-disconnect feature cuts power to the front wheels to save gas.

Both the Charger and the Impala are considered family-friendly cars. Everyone in the Charger will have enough space to stretch their legs. If you decide to take a road trip, your spouse and kids can relax throughout the day. You'll be able to enjoy the performance of a muscle car without sacrificing any comfort.

The roomy Impala provides plenty of room for all passengers. It soaks up the road like a genuine luxury sedan. This is a big attraction for the folks who will be taking a lot of out-of-town journeys. We should also note vehicle's balanced handling (probably because many of the Impala's steering components were taken directly from the sporty Chevrolet Camaro).

However, it all comes down to price, doesn't it? The Charger starts costs a bit more than the Impala. So, what's the verdict? Which one is a better buy - Dodge Charger or Chevy Impala?

The Dodge Charge wins, hands down! Here's why. The Impala is a bit cheaper but it comes with a V4 engine compared to the more powerful V6 for the Charger. While the Impala is spacious and comfortable, it doesn't deliver as much driving fun either. And last but not least, the Dodge Charger is a real head-turner and you will be the envy of both your neighbors and coworkers.
